🐭 Number Blitz

Fast mental maths with Milo. Answer from memory to fill the Recall Meter and score big — pause too long (that’s counting on fingers!) and it drains, then we lock in the facts you were slow on.

No camera, ever. No login. Pick a path:

🌱
SproutKS1 · ages 5–7. Gentle pace, helper on, bonds & 2/5/10 tables.
🏔️
ClimberKS2 · ages 7–11. Faster, guide fades, full tables & bonds to 100.

Number Blitz — a free mental maths game for kids

Number Blitz is a free, browser-based game that builds mental-maths fluency — times tables, number bonds and addition and subtraction facts — with Milo the mouse. It is built around one idea competitors miss: fluency is about instant recall from memory, not just getting the answer eventually. The Recall Meter rewards that instant recall and then re-drills the exact facts a child was slow on. No login, no camera.

How it teaches: recall, not just answers

Every question is answered from a set of tiles, and the game quietly measures how quickly the child responds. A quick answer — the sign that a fact is truly known — fills the Recall Meter and multiplies the score. A long pause — the tell-tale sign of counting on fingers or working it out the slow way — drains the meter. Because process-of-elimination is slow, the fastest winning strategy is simply to know the fact, which is exactly the fluency the maths curriculum asks for.

The signature mechanic: the Recall Meter

The Recall Meter is the maths cousin of Typing Quest’s Flow Meter. It watches recall speed. Answer within the quick window and the meter climbs and your score multiplier grows (up to five times). Take too long and Milo gently says “that one took a while — let’s lock it in,” the meter dips, and the fact is added to a review list. At the end of the round, a Lock it in drill brings those slow facts straight back — simple spaced repetition that targets the gaps instead of the facts a child already knows. It is the smarter version of the “Hit the Button” and “TT Rockstars” drill games teachers already use.

Made for KS1 and KS2

The two paths feel different from the very first question. The Sprout path (KS1) keeps a gentle pace, shows a friendly helper line, and starts with number bonds and the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. The Climber path (KS2) is faster, fades the on-screen guide away, and covers the full times tables to 12 by 12 plus number bonds to 100.

Frequently asked questions

Is Number Blitz free?

Yes — it’s completely free to play in your browser, with no login or account required.

Which maths facts does it cover?

Number bonds to 10, 20 and 100, addition and subtraction facts, and the full times tables up to 12 by 12. There is a gentle KS1 path and a faster KS2 path.

What ages is Number Blitz for?

A gentle KS1 path for ages 5 to 7 that starts with bonds and the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, and a faster KS2 path for ages 7 to 11 with the full times tables and bonds to 100.

What is the Recall Meter?

It rewards instant recall from memory: answering quickly fills the meter and multiplies the score, while the long pause of counting on fingers drains it. The game then drills the exact facts you were slow on so they get locked in. It uses no camera.

How is it different from Hit the Button or TT Rockstars?

As well as scoring speed, Number Blitz notices which facts a child recalls slowly or gets wrong and automatically re-drills exactly those facts in a “Lock it in” round, so practice targets the gaps.

Does it need a login and does it work on a shared computer?

No login and no camera. It works in any modern browser, and on a shared classroom computer it starts fresh each time the browser is opened.
