Question 1

Is Motion Studio free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Motion Studio is completely free to use in your browser, with no login or account required.

Question 2

What is onion skinning?

Accepted Answer

Onion skinning shows a faint ghost of the previous frame while you draw the next one, so you can see exactly how much to move each character to make smooth motion.

Question 3

How does the animation work?

Accepted Answer

You build one frame, add a new frame that copies it, move the characters a little, and repeat. When you press Play the frames run in sequence and your drawing comes to life.

Question 4

Can I save my animation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can save your project to a file and open it again later, and export the finished animation to share.

Question 5

Can I export the animation as a video?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Motion Studio can export your finished animation as a video file you can share or play anywhere, and it can save any single frame as a picture. You can also add background music that plays during your cartoon and is included in the video.

Question 6

What are poseable characters?

Accepted Answer

Poseable characters are people and animals whose arms, legs, heads and tails bend at the joints. Children drag a limb to pose it, then change the pose a little on each frame to make the character walk, wave or run. There are also drawing tools and reshapeable vector shapes so children can create their own characters too.
